Replace 92 GMC Yukon Fuel Pump

Cutting an access panel rather than removing fuel tank..

Removing the fuel tank is a tough job!  I decided to make an access panel.

Some newer vehicles have an access panel. I cut the carpet in two places and rolled it back.

Drilled 3/8" holes in corners, cut with sabre saw, metal blade, 1/2 block to decrease penetration.

Here, the pump has been replaced and the corroding lines given 4 coats of clear krylon acrylic.

Added protection of plactic wrapped around lines, then more taped down to keep road salt off.

3/4" by 1/8" steel stock cut 3 inches long, to make reattachment straps.

Short sheet metal screws used in 6 places

1/2" plywood panel added. Full tube of adhesive caulk used on metal seams, and plywood-metal edge.

I put heavy stuff in here, and want it to be secure! When the carpet and trim was replaced it looked almost normal..
