Mary Alice Osborne: See My Libraries - - - page 6 of 12
The new library is located on the 4th floor and was an empty space when I arrived last summer.
I had the unique opportunity to design all the furniture in the library. Here is a round shelf partially built in the basement of the school.
Several weeks later, the shelving units and circulation desk were delivered.
I designed the long book stacks with an unusual feature: a glass partition separates the shelves, allowing light and a feeling of openess.
The circular book stacks can be arranged as separate half circles or pushed together to form a round shelf as needed. These shelves are great for displaying books by genre, special subjects, and new books. You can see the marble top with embedded fossils we chose for the circulation desk.
Here is the interior design of the circulation desk.
The shelving units provide a great variety of possible arrangements.
Finally, the books arrived and the library started to become a reality.
